Our New born Son Caleb arrives!!

Kay was admitted into South Lake Hospital on June 1 at 20:00 childbirth unit.  It turned out to be a 11 hours labour during which our midwife Sally had to attend two other deliveries ion the same floor.  By 4:00 a.m. on June 2, the doctor came in and broke Kay's water because there was very little progress and everybody was tired by now.

At 7:20 a.m. Caleb was out of the womb, facing up and looking at dad.  He weighted 7lb 5oz and 19 inches long.

Praise the Lord for his protection over a safe labour.  Needless to say, everybody is excited with the new addition.

Hi, my name is Caleb and I am a couple of days old.

Thanks Aunt Janet for my diaper cake!!

Our addition – Electrical Part 1

In order to save some money, I have decided to tackle the wiring job myself.  Of course, I need to apply a permit for it, which naturally costs me somewhat (close to $300).  The previous owner has left an unused 40A cable in the crawl space, of which I can extend it to the new addition.  I calculate that 40A would provide 9600W and should be sufficient for addition.  Hopefully my calculations would pass the inspection.

I borrowed a simplified code book (2009-2011) from the library and start the work.  I know it is going to take me a long time to do it,but it would be a great learning experience.

Switch Box

I use ceiling support to make sure the fan would not fall.

Electrical boxes, cables, switches, breakers, receptacles.

The subpanel in the basement of addition.

Together with the plumbing, the 40A cable connects to the main panel through the crawl space and study room in a 6" plastic pipe.

8/3 cable that carries 40A of power.

Our addition – Plumbing

The plumber has now started to install the dry plumbing.

Drainage holes for bathroom

Sump pump, which runs quite frequently in the addition.  Can't imagine how much groundwater we get everyday.

Sewage pump, which connects all the way back to the main sewage in existing home, across the crawl space.

Water coming out from sump pump.
