Catch and Kill – wild hare

We spotted hares around the property recently and so we tried to setup traps to catch them.  We put a carrot and some cabbage leaves, hoping for quick catch.  It took about 3 days and we caught a small hare!!  Time for some free meat.

First we laid the tarp on the ground.  Then we put a bullet through its head.  Finally, we cleaned out the internal organs and skinned the hare.  We tried to make rabbit pelt but failed.

Use a sharp knife to cut a 2" hole in the stomach area. We were careful not to pierce any organ at this point.

Pulled the skin away from the hole so we have more room to pull out the organs.

We saved the heart and liver to eat.

The rest of the organs go into waste.

Here is a clearer view of separating the skin from meat.

We soaked the meat in salt water overnight and then bake it.  Yum!
