Our Little Man – Joshua

They say, he is going to be a mighty strong man one day.

It is an interesting thought indeed……

A man as strong as King David, was once as tiny as this little man before me…
And a man as wise as King Solomon, was once as simple as this little cooing baby…
Even Jesus, the son of God, was once a sweet little helpless babe as he, my son…

How amazing the design of God is,
The seasons, the power of nature,
And the mystery of life…

If you think further, or say to the negative side,
A man as cruel and as evil as Hitler, was also once as innocent as this cute little baby….
With little fingers and little toes….and yet can shed blood of millions
With inviting and pure lovely smiles…..and yet a heart full of hatred

How can this be…?

Sad. Unbelievable. Horrible. Tragedy….
Just because of one word, one little word….as simple as ‘sin’.

My son, do grow up one day as a mighty strong man!
Be strong enough by God’s grace and love!
Be strong enough to hate sin!
Be strong enough to love even your enemies!

And be strong enough, to be a warrior, that fights for the glory of God!

Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

A Day that Put into Test

These days, I am preparing myself mentally to let go of the fear of childbirth. (Yes! After 6 times!! And I still have fear!!) Praying and meditating upon some Scriptures, and reviewing a blog that I wrote two years ago Childbirth:To fear, or Not to Fear. I thank the Lord that as days are closing by, He makes me more calm, peaceful and positive about what is lying ahead. I myself sure could not make myself to come to this state.

Then I came across this article the night before yesterday, "Today's the day" by Russell Board, and was encouraged by his words, without knowing that I would immediately be put into test yesterday.

"Yes, today is a gift. And it has my name on the tag. This present from God has been custom-made for me. God has filled it with blessings, some obvious and some in disguise. Its difficulties and challenges are tailored to fit my size. It may not be exactly what I asked for, but it is exactly what I need.

This day comes equipped with a set of fresh opportunities. In its joys and pleasures, I can show my gratitude to God. In its trials and temptations, I can prove my faithfulness to God. In its pains and hardships, I can demonstrate my trust in God. In whatever form, the day's events will bring opportunities for service to God and others, and chances to exhibit the virtues of faith, hope, and love.

Best of all, God Himself will meet me today……….." – Russell Board

The weather of yesterday was strange. We all expected it hot with a humidex of 40 degree Celsius, and it was!! However, after a few drops of rain at around 4pm, our place cooled down to 18 degree celsius. I thought there went to heat, but no, it started building up again! And the humidex was around 34 degree celsius after 5:30pm!

Then I received Derek's call around 6pm that he had a car accident. He didn't have his own phone with him, so he didn't talk much. All I knew was he was OK and he couldn't be home any time soon. Then I gathered the children to pray for Daddy's safety and thanks God for keeping him safe during the accident.

At around 6:30pm, a lady at CAA called and let me know that my husband was on his way to a collison centre with CAA, and he would try to call me when he was there.

Not long after this call, the sky turned black, and started to rain hard suddenly. It was raining REALLY hard, the wind was blowing hard as well! The wind was so strong that it really frightened the children. And the electricity was down. After we ran around and closed all the windows, I gathered the children again to pray for protection. Since we live in the country, we really see the power of nature first hand. We could see a big tree being knocked down in just seconds of strong wind…. So we prayed that God will keep us safe, and keep this property safe, and most importanly, we did not know if Daddy was on the road in this strong wind, so we prayed again that he would be safe.

During the prayer, I spoke from my heart that God would keep this baby in me during this time as well. Yes, I am 37.5 weeks pregnant. And I just received an email at 5:30pm before all this happened about our friend having her baby at 37.5 weeks. I couldn't help but thinking what if…..and I couldn't imagine if any car can drive in this kind of wind….and I just didn't know where my husband was at that time…. I was so tempted to fear, to tremble, because I could not think of a plan on my own if the baby did really decide to come at that moment. So I kept asking the Lord to give me peace and keep me calm, and He did. Then I thought I needed more prayers as well, so I called my mom and let her knew about the situation and she prayed with me immediately on the phone. After that, I served the children candlelight dinner, it's dark enough that we wouldn't be able to tell if there's a fly in our bowls.

We were so thankful that we did not need to wait for long before the strong wind and rain gone. But we kept waiting for Daddy's call. There's no calls from Derek. And there's no car driving up to our drive way. And I kept reminding myself, "Today is a gift".

At 9pm, I finally decided to ask the children to go to bed first. And that's the time we saw a CAA truck coming in with Daddy and our car.

Lord, we can only thank You and praise You.

And thanks God that we can all go to sleep peacefully last night though the electricity was still down at that time….

Journals to Treasure

JournalJournal

For the sake of some writing exercises, Tiffany and Odelia are required to write a few pieces of journals each week. To make it fun, they create their own journals and they love making it! They can write about anything, unless we have a special trip that week and they are required to write about it.

After they finish their journal pieces, I will try my best to write a few comments on each one. You know, comments more than just “OK” or “good work”. From my childhood experience, if the teacher was willing to write sentences of comments on my journals, I would pour my heart into the journals, and shared my ideas and feelings with my teacher through them. I am really glad that I can have the privilege to share my daughters’ journals, a place to look into their hearts and communicate with them.

With my daughters’s permission, I am able to share the following two pieces with you. The first piece was by Odelia last year.

Pets

One snowy day in winter, we walked passed a pet shop when I cried ’’How cute is that kitten!”
“You want it?” asked mom.
“Yes!” I exclaimed.
So, we went inside. Mom REALLY bought me the kitten. I was VERY EXCITED. I was too excited that I jumped up and down while mom paid the shopkeeper. I was so happy! I said, ”THANKS MOM! Thank you.” Then we drove home.
This story is not true.

The funniest part to me and my husband is the very last sentence “This story is not true.” We know how she really wish to have some pets with fur, and how cute it is that she expressed it in a story format. However, we can only say sorry to her that a pet like that is just not for our family right now…

And this following poem was written by Tiffany in her journal last year.

My Mother

Mother, you are precious,
The food you cook are delicious.
Mother, oh Mother,
Thank you for all your kindness.
Mother, Oh precious Mother,
You work very hard,
To bring our lives into the world.
Mother, you are such a wonderful blessing,
Whom God our Saviour had given us.
Mother, oh Mother,
I don’t know how I could ever thank you,
For all your kindness to me.
Mother, Oh Mother,
I love you very much.
Mother, I tell you once more,
That I love you very much.

How sweet!

Our Precious Melody, and her Eczema

carry

The Lord is good. He led us through the darkest hours. No….I should say, He carried us through……we hardly managed to walk.

Our little lovely Melody is now 18 months. When I was pregnant with her, my body condition was very weak because of Candida yeast. Therefore, as expected, Melody’s health was affected. It did not show at first, not until she was almost 3 months old.

At that time, little red spots started to show on her cheeks. As it got worse and spread to her forehead, I started thinking maybe it’s allergic reaction. I first tried to eliminate common allergens like diary from my diet and thought she would be fine again soon once I figured out what she’s allergic to. However, it’s not as easy as I thought. Her condition grew worse, and on some days she flared up really bad. She seems to be allergic to everything. It was face eczema and then there were some patches on her tummy and legs as well, though not as severe as her face. The photos you see below are already not the worst days of Melody. Taking the camera out would be the last thing that we would think of doing during those days….

Eczema1Eczema2

Since Melody started to know how to scratch around 4 months old, things got more complicated and we got more miserable. As we would find her face all bloody even if we failed to keep her from scratching for just a few minutes. Since then, we had to struggle between chores, cooking, school work and 24 hrs surveillance on her. The other children had to take turns as well guarding her hands from scratching. At night, me and Derek have to take turns staying up to make sure she did not scratch, thus we only got half the sleep. Derek gets a little more sleep as he has to go to work. But his “extra” sleep had to be on the couch with Melody in his arm. During those worst times, she had to be tied up by receiving blankets because her hands were just faster than we could response.

People’s hearts ached when they saw Melody. We were even asked if her face was burnt.

We are so thankful that Melody’s condition is so much better after her first birthday. We do not need to bundle her up that much as a few scratches would not make her bloody anymore. And as she’s more curious about her surroundings now that she does not scratch as much. Thus, she finally develop her mobile skills by moving around on her bum! Yes, she did not start by rolling over or crawling or sitting up by herself. =)

She’s still reacting to lots of food, therefore, there are still good days and bad days. However, the days are much more enjoyable now!

We can only offer our thanks to God, for His grace and mercy, and to others who pray earnestly for Melody. We are amazed how God connects us with other Christians through this difficult time.

So why didn’t God heal Melody completely in a blink? We have no answers to that. But we trust that, in God, everything has a purpose. Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” And before Melody was born, I was almost thinking she will be just another baby, we will handle her okay, we will just do this and that and everything will be fine. Well, Melody has her way telling me she’s not just another baby. She’s special from day 1. She is the baby I pushed for the longest time during labor. And she’s the baby who stay in my arms for the longest time, even more than our first baby. I do appreciate the special bonding between Melody and I today, though it’s been really tough….really tough….

Eczema4

Melody is now very sweet and fun and adorable, we all enjoy her so much every day wih laughters. Thanks so much again for praying for her. I do not know how to express my appreciation for all your caring hearts. Please keep praying for her complete healing, as she is still on a very restrictive diet and still flares up from time to time though on a much lower degree.

We did try a lot of remedies and supplements, but honestly, we do not exactly know what is working and what is not.

However, I do want to share what we did here, as some of the information might be helpful to someone. Besides relieving her itchiness, building up her immune system is our goal. We did not do all these things together at the same time, but different combinations at a certain time period.

Food Intolerance Blood Test

First, we need to figure out what she’s sensitive to. It can be anything, like chemicals and material in clothing, furniture, and particles in air, and anything in any household cleaning and laundry products and skin care products. For these things, we can only do our best to go for all natural products. There’r blood tests that can be done like ALCAT, besides expensive, it just cannot cover all. Last but not least, is the food. In the beginning, I thought it would just be wheat or dairy, some easy to detect thing. However, I spent months and just couldn’t figure out. Then we finally decided to spend $500 dollars to pay for a blood test called Hemocode. We were really desperate. And Derek was out of job at that moment thus we were not covered for this cost. Well, at least we found out she’s even sensitive to garlic, rice, lemon among many other things that we wouldn’t think of. However, to be honest, it was just a basic list to start with. There were still other things that I needed to add to that list to keep her well like sugar, too starchy things…etc.

There are other kinds of tests that can detect food intolerances as well. However, we found blood test the most netural as in not contraditing our believes and convictions.

Apply on Skin

Coconut oil with Garlic & Tea Tree oil – It is very nourishing for the skin as well as killing bacteria and promote healing. It worked beautifully for me, but Melody was reacting to it so I had to stop applying it on her. Later, we did find out that she is allergic to Garlic through blood test.

Concentrated Herbal tea – I made tea of burdock, comfrey, plantain and yarrow. Then I damped pieces of Bounty with the tea and put them on her face to relieve her and promote healing of her wounds.

Dead sea salt & grapefruit seed extract – dead sea salt is very rich in minerals that nourish the skin and ease pain. Magnesium, said to have amazing skin healing properties, is also known for accelerating cell metabolism. The salt also exfoliates dead skin cells, acts as a strong skin treatment as it rubs away the layer of dead skin cells that sits atop your skin. Besides, it cleans our skin by gently abrading the skin, picking up oils and dirt from skin pores. And the salt stimulates blood circulation and removes toxins as well. For this, I also damped pieces of Bounty to put on her face.

Eczema3

Salve – It is the Amazing Salve that I made myself, click here to know more.

Coconut oil – it softens the skin, protects it against damage and infection, promotes healing to wounds, blood blisters, rashes, etc. It helps to keep connective tissues strong by preventing destructive free-radical formation and provides protection against them, so that the skin doesn't sag and wrinkle, thus a more youthful and healthy appearance. It can also help to keep the skin from developing liver spots, and other blemishes caused by aging and over exposure to sunlight. Coconut oil will absorb easily, penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin, keep the skin soft, and yet without feeling greasy. It will help to reduce chronic skin inflammation within days.

Calendula salve – And I also specially put in calendula to our homemade salve. Calendula has wonderful healing properties on skin wounds and any other skin conditions. It soothes our skin as well.

Take Internally

Cod liver oil – Good source of DHA and EPA (Omega-3), vitamin A, and vitamin D, which leads to healthy skin, strong bones and teeth, healthy joints, healthy cardiovascular system, healthy nervous system, prevention of depression and other mood disorders, and a healthier digestive tract. I started giving this to Melody when she’s around 6 months old. However, since she seemed to react to it, it only lasted for around 2 weeks.

Coconut oil – It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. It kills viruses that cause influenza, measles, hepatitis, herpes, etc. It kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, etc. And it is effective on fungi and yeast that cause candidiasis, ringworm, athlete's foot, thrush, diaper rash, etc. Moreover, it helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents problems like irritable bowel syndrome. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Evening Primrose Oil – includes linoleic acid (LA) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which both belong to the omega-6 family of fatty acids.  It can help relieve eczema symptoms including itching, crusting, edema (fluid, swelling), and redness.

Colostrum – It contains a lot of different types of anti-oxidants. It also contains antibodies against allergens, contains IgE binding factors which suppress IgE expression, so it can prevent or inhibit allergic reactions. Moreover, it is good for skin health. It helps maintain skin health from the inside, by healing leaky gut syndrome and through its antioxidant effect. And also externally, by healing skin inflammation and stimulating cell growth with its growth factors.

Probiotics – a lot of health issues start within our guts. Keeping good bacteria inside our guts is a very important step towards healing or maintaining our health.

Coconut Water Kefir – Coconut water is very rich in dietary fiber, potassium, calcium and Vitamin C. When it is added to kefir, a natural probiotic, it becomes highly beneficial to the digestive track. It aids digestion and cleanses the liver, thus good for the skin among many other benefits.

Vitamin D – – It is crucial for the absorption and metabolism of calcium and phosphorous, which have various functions, especially the maintenance of healthy bones. And It also strengthen the immune system.

Mangosteen juice – rich in vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, B1, B2, B6, potassium, iron, and calcium. It is also very rich in xanthones and antioxidants.

Sea Buckthorn oil and juice – it is very rich in vitamin C, good for healing. And it also contains flavonoids and other antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E and beta-carotene that help the body fight free radicals. Contains omegas 3, 6, 7, 9 that promotes healthy skin, hair, and lots of other benefits as well. It is also rich in proteins and free amino acids, and other elements like nitrogen, phosphorous, iron, manganese, boron, calcium, aluminum, silicon and others.

Chia seed – Since Melody’s diet is very restrictive, I just need to find ways to boost her nutrition. For this seed, there’s more calcium than milk, more vitamin C than oranges, more antioxidants than blueberry, more omega-3 fatty acid than salmon, more iron than spinach, more magnesium than broccoli, and loads of protein and fiber.

Bath : Epson salt, baking soda, herbs (burdock, comfrey, plantain), dead sea salt

How could you………Monsanto?

When Melody woke up beside me this morning, she gave me her sweetest smile ever. Her eczema face is usually better when she first wake up, and this morning was the best of all…..

Then I thought of Monsanto…what a ruin of mood…

How could a company want to harm the health of such a sweet little girl….and why would they want to destroy the future of these precious little children..……

I can only mourn….

And I can only mourn over the children, the families and the lives that they have already destroyed….and I can only pray for those who are still living in hell because of them….

And I can only be thankful that I know the Lord, and I have hope that God is going to restore everything one day, and victory is in Him! If not, what is the meaning of living on in this corrupted darkened world….

Finally, we understand why God has to judge this world by fire next time, as not even a tiny little grass seed is the same as when He created it, everything is ruined….just ruined….by human’s greed and ignorance…..

Dead Leaves

deadleaves
Have you ever seen dead leaves among dead trees? They do not fall off.

The wind blows harder and harder, but yet, they stick to the branches….

Few months ago we had this tree being knocked down during a storm, and the leaves never bother to come down dancing on the field like the other maple leaves do even now. Yes, interesting enough, the wind can knock down the tree but not the dead leaves on a dead tree.

I always thought the leaves fall because they are dead and dried. Certainly, I was wrong.

Awhile ago our pastor shared with us the fact that the leaves fall only because there’s life within a tree to push them off. Therefore, for us, just make sure there’s LIFE within us, so then our unwanted ugly dirty sinful nature will be pushed off one by one without us ever thinking about how to get rid of them, as He will prepare us to bear fruits!

Fascinating!!!

John 15:4-5 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Day by Day

Day by Day

Lyrics:Lina Sandell
Music:Oscar Ahnfeldt

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day the Lord Himself is near me,
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counsellor and Pow’r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then, in every tribulation,
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation,
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till with Christ the Lord I stand.

Every morning, we have a praising time that the child of the day will pick two hymns for us to sing while I play the piano. Then, we will take turns saying one thing that we are grateful for that child of the day. After that we will all pray for her. We love this time as it refreshes the atmosphere of love and peace no matter what had happened before in that morning. And it reminds me to be loving.

Today, a Thursday, is the day of our fourth child, Viviana. She picked this hymn. While I sang and played this hymn, it warmed my heart and eyes….It’s through our lost that we learned how blessed we were and still are, it’s through trails that we learned nothing is more precious than God’s presence, and it’s through crisis that we learned what God’s mercy really is…..

He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

I CHAI LIU!!!

Fear of unintentionally showing not enough affection to each of the girls, we specify each day of the week to one of our daughters. For example, Tiffany is our eldest, therefore, Monday will be our Tiffany day. And Tuesday will be for our second daughter, i.e. Odelia day, and so on. On that particular day, we all have to pray for that person, and also remember to say “I love you” and give hugs to that person, especially during Bible time. It is also the day that the particular person has to gather the eggs from the chicken coop as well!

Shoshana As we keep saying “I love you” to that particular person during Bible time, our 2-year-old Shoshana joins in as well. And somehow, what she says is “I CHAI LIU”. That is really funny! Now, “I Chai Liu” becomes our Chan’s way of saying “I love you”. =)
