Coronavirus Pandemic

I am sure by now that the most news that you care about for the past week is about the spreading coronavirus pandemic in China and the rest of the world.  Being a Chinese, it is needless to say that I am very much concerned.  There is a large population of  ethical Chinese living in Greater Toronto Area and I attend a Chinese church composed of 90% mainland Chinese Christians.

All of a sudden, as the number of confirmed cases and death roll rise, the feeling of being infected and die never feel so real.  Of course, it doesn’t help with the fact that many Chinese had already escaped to different countries before WHO has declared a public health emergency and airlines have suspended flight to and from China.

There are certain aspects of this virus that I want to share with the readers.

  1. Is it possible that this coronavirus is a man-made biological weapon that was accidentally leaked or sabotaged?

I admit that some Chinese have unusual eating habits that I can never fathom.  The official story states that the virus was first appeared from bats (as in bat soup) in a wet market in Wuhan, China.  However, I know that Chinese have been eating all kinds of wild creatures for hundreds, if not thousands of years.  Why now?

There are reports from several news outlets (banished from mainstream media) stating that this virus was developed in a level-4 biohazard lab in Wuhan:

Personally I think there is a high probability that this virus was designed as a bio-weapon.  Why would the government quarantine 50 million people in 16 cities during the most important Chinese festival (Chinese New Year).  If this is just some slightly contagious seasonal flu that has killed 300 so far (I don’t trust this number), why implement extreme measures?

I think the Chinese officials knew very well that this is a killer virus designed by their own scientists.  The high incubation period and the ability to infect other people without the carrier showing any symptoms is not normal.  Chinese government is most concern about its economy in order to stay in control; and now they are willing to shut down the factories, transit and commerce?  They know that the seriousness of disastrous damage this virus could inflict on the whole nation if it cannot be contained (sadly it might be too late at this stage).

2.  Masks are mostly sold out everywhere, including GTA.

I cannot believe my eyes when I went online on Jan 25.  Every store, including Home Depot, Lowes, Homehardware, CanadianTire, Walmart, Amazon.ca had 0 N95 respirators(in pack) in stock. Yes, you can still buy individual masks but you would have to pay a lot more.

Sellers have been charging 5x or 10x more for N95 masks on Amazon.  People in Hong Kong were hording masks, sanitizes, rice and cup noodles.  I tried to buy some N95 masks but the seller refunded my order citing that it was out of stock.

If you don’t have any disposable N95 masks, try 3M 6000 or 7000 half-face respirator or the more expensive full-face respirator 3M 6800 (which I have, it is excellent).  Remember:  you still need to purchase proper filter for them.  You can still buy them but be prepared to spend at least $30 to $100 each.

3.   So what to do now?

  • Watch Dr.  Martenson talking about the virus here.
  • Be extra careful about personal hygiene.  Don’t touch your eyes before washing your hands.  Wear a suitable mask if you are in a crowd.  Try to stay home as much as possible.
  • Store medical supplies, essential oils, vitamins and supplements to boost your immune system.
  • Store water and food.  Imagine that the same quarantine measures in China coming to your nearest neighbourhood.  It is 100% possible.  Then you will be totally dependent on the government.  Don’t wait, be prepared yourself for your family’s sake.
  • Pray.  This is no joke.  All throughout my website whenever I talk about “prepping”, I stress the ultimate importance of trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.  We are just temporary residents on this earth.  Our eternal home is with God in new Jerusalem.  We don’t have to fear if it is our time to leave this world.

Let me share these verses as comfort:

Psalms 91
1) He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2) I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3) Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4) He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5) Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6) Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

May God protect you in this turbulent times.

Happy New year 2020

Another year has passed and we are now entering into the 2nd decade of the 21st Century.  As I reflect upon 2019, it was another year full of God’s blessings and grace.

The most memorable incident was the downhill skiing trip back in March where my 2nd daughter hurt herself in the knee with meniscus tear.  Needless to say, semi-“bed bound” for almost 2 weeks with excruciating pain was no small thing for anyone, let alone a young lady. However, through the long road of recovery, she learned to be patient and trust God in the process. During those 2 weeks, she wrote a book where a Christian publisher signed a publishing contract with her!   Indeed, as the Bible said: “all things work together for good to them that love God”.

We also started an exercise program in summer where I required the younger children to have a minimum amount of aerobic exercises per week.  Since the easiest way is to finish a 1-mile run, they chose to do so once or twice a week.  Initially they all complained that they were going to die after the 10+ mins run on our long driveway.  However, after a few tries, all of them improved significantly and the “dying” feeling was no longer heard. Sadly, I still cannot run faster than 6:30 but given that I am now 43, the hope grows dimmer as the year goes by.  However, I did run occasionally with a 8-pound weight (it can go up to 40 lbs) under 7 minutes.

We also had our first try in the homeschool cross country race in end of September.  The younger ones had to run 1km and 2km whereas the older ones had to finish a 3km race in the Milne Dam Conservation Park in Markham.  The longer than usual run on uneven ground was certainly a challenge, but everyone did have fun. I came 2nd and I did have the “I am going to die” feeling as soon as I crossed the finishing line (although I did not express it verbally, of course).

One thing I was not able to accomplish was to build a greenhouse, although I did fix the chicken coop and built a second firewood shed.  For the month of December, I was busy building an ice rink for the first time.  I will update the blog as soon as it is officially completed.

In 2019, gold price passed USD $1500 and the world is forever drowned with more debt.  When will the bubble burst?  I have been waiting for 3 years now but the elites keep pulling tricks out of their hats and kicking the can down the road.  Nevertheless, the more they inflate the bubble, the louder the sound of “boom” when it bursts.

I was also surprised of the civil unrest in Hong Kong, where there is still no end in sight.  The hatred, violence, damage and polarization of the society are frightening.  I am also amazed at the rate of deterioration where rule of law on a once peacefully island could vanish overnight.

Geopolitical tensions are on the rise, and if the financial meltdown should happen this year, large scale civil riots and even regional wars will take place.  The trade war between US and China symbolizes the struggle of power balance between the East and the West.  It seems to me that the East is rising whereas the West is declining; however US will not go down without a spectacular fight.

We can expect to see wild swing in the stock markets, currency exchanges and commodities prices.  Be prepared.  It is still not too late to own gold.

Forget the 5G Debate, Current Wifi May Already Be Killing Us

I have been writing about dangers of wireless technologies before: 5G Dangers and Harmful Wireless Technologies.  Of course, when I tell people about my “electromagnetic sensitivity” people usually just roll their eyes and politely nod their heads and say “Ahh…right, really?”  And keep texting or browsing the web on their smartphone as we part our ways.

Whenever I go to a meeting room in my company, I bring along the usb to ethernet adapter and plug in to the almost extinct ethernet port.  I think I am probably the only person in our branch that does not use wifi and keep the cellphone in airplane mode most of the time.

Recently, my previous local internet service provider closes door and I was scrambled to find another ISP.  Just as I was about to signup with the much complained satellite internet, a Bell salesman knocked on the door and told us that Bell’s wireless home internet was ready for business!  It was an answer to prayer because satellite internet has high latency and would render VPN and voice/video communications unusable.

My previous ISP uses 2.4 GHz spectrum whereas Bell uses 3.5 GHz.  This would provide us higher download speed (great news), but it  also  means greater damage to our bodies (bad news).  The cell phone towers are with line of sight of our house (towers are north of us) so the signal is very strong.  I have been using aluminum screen wire along the entire wall of our house to block the harmful wireless radiation.

My wife even suggests me to plant a couple tall evergreen next year to further block the tower signal.

In our mind, we don’t need any expert to tell us the wireless technology is harmful to our bodies because we have been suffering from it.  Although I have read several solid scientific reports from prominent scientists, I am thrilled to find out that some high school students, many of them heavy cell phone/wifi users, have conducted the following experiment:

Source: here

Wow, just because you cannot see the wireless signal, it doesn’t mean they cannot destroy your body.  Just like “smoke free” zones, I sure hope we can have “wifi free” (NOT free wifi) zones in the public someday.

Second Firewood Shed

Upon the successful of last year’s Building Firewood Shed, I decided to build another firewood shed, smaller in size this time.  With both sheds, we would be able to store 3 1/2 bush cords of firewood.  Again, everybody helps out in building the shed and stacking the firewood.

The shed size is about 4’W x 8’L x 6.5’H.  Again, I used crush gravels and concrete slab as foundation.  I connected 2 pallets and laid them on top of the concrete slabs.

For the rest of the frame  I use 2 x 4 studs.  I did not bother to paint the studs this time.

I found some old steel and pvc roof panels lying around and I am drilling them to the sheathing with 1.5″ screws.
Stacking firewood.  We ordered 3 bush cords this year.
Final scene with both sheds full of firewood.  All done in 3 days!  Thank you Chan children.

Fall Garden 2019

Fall is here and it is the best season of the year IMHO.  Time to harvest and close down the garden.

Cucumber is my favorite summer veggie.  I was able to harvest continually about 4x 5 gallon-bucket of fresh cukes.
This is the oldest apple tree on our farm.  I suspect it is over 30 years old.

In previous years, the apples had blight, scab and were usually sour.  We could use may be 10% of the harvest.

However, this year we have a bumper crop and the apples are sweet and crisp, without much blemish.

I did NOT do anything this year to this old tree so I am feeling overwhelmed.

Drying garlic for storage and planting in October.
This is fall lettuce.
This is a new 3″ x 8″ square where I will be planting garlic.
3 plants of spaghetti squash produce 18 fruits.

Hong Kong Protest

Most of the readers who follow headlines in the news would know that the protest in Hong Kong has stepped in its fourth month with no ending in sight.

I was born in Hong Kong, raised in Taiwan until I was 5 and spent my younger part of my life (11 years) in Hong Kong until I immigrated to Canada with my parents at the age of 16.  I consider myself Canadian Chinese and not “Hong Kongers”.  Although I have no intention of going back to Hong Kong because I enjoy Canada’s rural scenery more than the hectic city life, I am somewhat saddened by the chaos, violence and sharp disparity Hong Kong citizens have suffered.

Since I have not been living in Hong Kong for 26 years, I am least qualified to speak for people who live in Hong Kong.  However, I am still concern with the well being of “Hong Kongers” because I still have relatives and friends living in HK.  And I am still thankful for the tiny piece of land where I spent my youthful years.

First of all, I am a Christian, a Chinese and a Canadian, in that order.  I love China, but I do not support the People’s Communist government currently in power.  People often confused about the idea that loving a country means loving the government.  Nothing is far from reality.  I love Canada and will defend her with all cost, but I do not support the current Liberal government at all.

There is nothing good about Marxism and I will go as far to say that the core idea of communism is evil and anti-God.  From history, we can see that nations that adopted some form of capitalism were the most prosperous (i.e. US, Europe).  That does not mean that there were no crimes or social issues in these nations; however, comparing with nations that were under Islamic and communistic rules (e.g. Soviet Union), people generally enjoy more freedom and substance in a capitalistic society.

In June and July, there were 2 occasions of million-people march against the HK Extradition Bill (now withdrawed).  The protest was mostly peaceful and I fully support the rights of citizens to peacefully protest against any bills they deem harmful.  However, violence soon erupted across the city.  Crowd (mostly young people) started to vandalize, attack police, shutdown traffic with barricades, commit arson, etc…  Almost everyday there are pockets of violence where tear gas, rubber bullets, bricks, umbrellas and sharp objects would fly around on streets.  Families are torn apart where parents would beg their youngsters to stay home while the hot blooded young men and women would put on their masks and helmets, grab their umbrellas and start another day of protest and fight with police.

I have seen many video clips where older citizens would argue and reason with younger generation to stop the violence and let the general public go back to normal living.  Of course, police resort to force in order to restore order and there are cases of unnecessary violence on their part as well.  Nevertheless, I think Hong Kong police have shown great restraint when facing the violent mob.

Yes, I used the word “mob” to describe this small percentage of  unruly young people who openly attack police and insult seniors.

One thing that really puzzles me is why are the US and UK flags being waved?  Why do some people think that there is democracy in the Western world?

If the same violence and protest has taken place in US, it would be quelled within a week with mass casualties.  Police are brutal in US.  In most cases, they would shoot to kill before asking questions.  Most police departments have been militarized to the point where military weapons are standard issue to the SWAT teams.

If you dare to throw a sharp stick or push a burning shopping cart towards the police in US, they will fire upon you instantly and legally.  The police officer has every right to protect himself when his life is in danger.  This should apply to HK police as well.   It is not a matter of whether the mob carry firearms.  A good number of people killed by US police are unarmed and pose no harm to the police.  Simply go to youtube and look for yourself.

Have we seen a single case where a HK police officer fire upon the “mob” when they are attacked and cornered?  I pray that this would never happen.

Could there be foreign powers inciting and instigating the riot and violence?  Most probably.  Where else would the mob get the funding for the endless masks, helmets, umbrellas etc…..  Who can afford to go on the street every day and smash everything in your sight?  A young person without a job is an easy target.

Now after 4 months of chaos, HK GDP is sharply lower.  Police are over-stressed.  Normal living of the general public is greatly disrupted.  Stores have to be closed.  Hotels are emptied.  Subway stations are full of broken glasses.  Transit and airport has to be shutdown periodically.  Hong Kong is no longer the attractive “Pearl of the East” for tourism.  Several countries have issued “travel advisory” against HK, including Canada.

Even though some HK people do not want to be governed under China’s communist ruling part, the fact remains that HK is part of China.  The prosperity that HK enjoys since 1980s was very much due to the “market economy reform” designed by Deng Xiaoping.  The West wanted the cheap labor force from mainland China (and HK to some extent) while China needed the capitals for setting up factories and superior technologies from the West.  Hong Kong, being closest to mainland China and protected by a Western judiciary system thanks to the former British colonial government, became the perfect “middleman”.

As China continued to open up to the world with more Western corporations conducting business directly within mainland China, the importance of HK as the “gate to China” dwindles continuously.

While  technically HK is still under “one country, 2 systems” policy, it will be under “one country, 1 system” in year 2047.  What then?  Unless HK completely breaks off from China and becomes an independent nation like Singapore, her fate is sealed.  Is US going to foster HK as her overseas state in order to encircle China?  May be.

But look at Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.  These countries have an on-going treaty with US whereas US would protect them from communist China.  However, we can witnessed the economical bullying these Asian countries suffered in the hands of “big brother” US.  They have to pay large amount of money to US every year in exchange for the military protection, in addition, they have to purchase old military equipment (e.g. aged F-16 jets) from US.

I can feel the agony HK people are facing and I do not have a good solution but I know that we need to avoid blood and violence on the streets.  It is a tough question when or should we pick up arms and overturn a tyrannical government (think American Revolution against British).

As for myself, I am just an alien on this earth and my eternal home is in the Celestial city with everlasting God.

Midsummer Garden 2019

So far we have a pretty good summer.  There were a couple of hot humid days but overall it is pretty good.  I have expanded the garden again this year by using solely  chicken manure plus wood shavings from cleaning the chicken coop.  Once again, the plants grow substantially better in the compost.

Pristine apple that I planted when we first moved the hobby farm.  It has been bearing more fruits in recent years.

I am also using a yellow sticky sheet to trap bugs and I have been spraying kaolin clay/water mix to protect the tree.

Corn, garlic and cucumber cramp into a small space but growing well in chicken compost.
White bitter melon.  This is the first time I have ever seen or planted such a variety.
Squash and cucumber (on trellis) growing together.
Spaghetti squash.
Carrot (front) and providence green beans (back).
Grapes.

STOP LGBT indoctrination at Disneyland

For many years, I have not allowed Disney movies/products into our home, although from time to time we would discuss the latest anti-Christianity worldview subtly (or more overtly) embedded in its movies.

When our children were young, we had a couple of books about and toy gifts of characters portrayed in Cinderella, Snow White, Mickey Mouse, etc…  However, we feel that “fairy tales” are probably not the best reading material for children.  In Philippians 4:8:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

We should first immerse ourselves and our children in the Word of God, followed by books written by good Christian authors (both fiction and non-fiction).  Then we can read “secular” books that would teach us practical skills and knowledge.  Finally, when our children are old enough, we would carefully allow them to read books by secular authors but with discernment.  This goes the same with movies, websites, etc…  Granted, we are unable to do a perfect job on keeping an eye on everything our children read and watch, but we try to discuss the evil agenda hidden behind the movies or books whenever we can.

We have never and will never bring our children to Disney World simply because of its anti-God culture.  I know this statement might offend some Christian parents but I believe our money can be better spent on other “theme park” such as Ark Encounter

In recent years, Disney has increasingly shifted their direction to proclaim the LGBT agenda.  In June, Disney Paris made history by hosting its first “Magical Pride” parade indoctrinating families and children about gay lifestyle.

Persecution of Christians in Canada

When being asked what they think of Canada, most people around the world might answer “maple syrup”, “hockey”, “snow/cold”, “peaceful”, “freedom”.  When my parents immigrated from Hong Kong to Toronto 26 years ago, Canada was a free and stable nation.  The tax was high (even higher today) but the general public were loving and welcome multiculturalism.

Since the Liberal government took control, Justin Trudeau has been pushing his LGBT and “equality” agenda to all corners of the society.  The result?  Christians have been demonized, marginalized and ridiculed because the Word of God condemned any sexual immorality, be it homosexuality, adultery or fornication.

The LGBT group promotes “love”, “tolerance” and “equality”.  Yet, we witness over and over again that certain LGBT advocates hate and are intolerant to Christians who speak the truth about sins and the coming judgment of God.  Most importantly, there is hope in Jesus Christ who forgives all sinners willing to repent and live a new life.

We have seen Christians being arrested, jailed, fined and dragged in legal battles when they refuse to adopt the LGBT lifestyle.  The Christians are not stopping those people from living a LGBT lifestyle; they are simply exercising their freedom of speech and religion protected by Constitution (or Bill of Rights in Canada) .

Yet workers of darkness cannot “tolerate” when someone shine the light on their deeds and they have to call the police or lobby the lawmakers to stop Christians from expressing their views.

Recently in June 2019, a pastor in Toronto was arrested while preaching on the street, which is perfectly legal in Canada.  In the following video, I ask that you to judge if pastor Lynn was “hateful” or “violent” during this unfortunate incident.

Please pray for pastor Lynn and the LGBT advocates.  We all need God’s mercy.

Short version:

Long version:

Also, I am copying an email sent by CitizenGo:

It’s starting to become an epidemic. I call it the “Pride Month Arrests”.

I already told you about the arrest of David Lynn on June 4th, a Christian man who was peacefully sharing the love of God with pedestrians in the Church St. area of Toronto. He was mobbed and attacked by LGBT supporters, and when the police came to investigate, he was the one who was arrested. The victim was victimized.

Well, I just heard from the Rebel that another peaceful Christian, Dorre Love, experienced a similar fate last Friday, June 21st, also in the Church St. area of Toronto. He was mobbed and harassed by LGBT folks, then the police came and arrested him. They did not arrest the assailants, but the victim.

And of course, you will recall the “hate crime” charge laid against Christian activist Bill Whatcott for handing out Gospel literature at the 2016 Gay Pride parade in Toronto. (You can sign our petition for Bill here).

What is happening to our country? Why do we see LGBT mob rule in our streets? Why are the police ignoring real harassment and violence? Why are they targeting Christians? This is getting serious!

What’s next? Concentration camps for Bible-believing Christians? Maybe this is not so far-fetched.

I had the opportunity and privilege to meet with David Lynn yesterday in Toronto. I spoke with him about his arrest and what this means for Christians, churches, and priests and pastors in Canada. I also got to meet his lovely wife and four-month-old son.

Pastor David Lynn

Pastor David Lynn struck me as a patient, kind, and reasonable soul. His number one passion is to share the love of God with everyone all across Toronto. He really cares. He really wants to make a positive difference in this world. There was absolutely no hatred in his message – no anger towards homosexuals.

It is an absolute crime that people like Pastor David are the ones being persecuted and punished. If we do not act now and stand up against this injustice, who knows who will be next.

As Pastor David says, “We’re all in this together and we have to stand with each other.”

I invite you to watch my full interview with Pastor David. It shows his heart, tells his story, and unmasks the injustice that took place when he was arrested on June 4th. It is a short, twelve-minute video that I am sure you will want to share with others.

Please watch, comment on, and share the video here: https://youtu.be/exbhodfhjdE

If you have not yet signed our petition in support of Pastor David, please do so here: https://www.citizengo.org/en-ca/pr/171367-christian-mobbed-assaulted-and-arrested-toronto

Chicken Coop Renovation

As I mentioned in previous post, I was haunted by rats infestation for the whole winter. Eventually, they were killed by traps and rat poisons. Now sprint/summer has arrived and it is time to fix the holes and “patch things up”.

First off, butcher the hens and remove the existing nest boxes. I plan to rebuild the nest boxes into “community rolling nest box”.
Fill the holes with concrete.
Cover the entire floor with 1/2″ x 1/2″ hardware cloth.
Dig a trench around the chicken coop. Since the coop was built on top of wood beams, a good portion of them are rotting.
Cover the wood beams with hardware cloth.
Various sizes (3/8″ to 3/4″) of clear gravels for base.
Caleb helping out with the shovel.
Joshua helping out with the shovel. After laying the gravels I will put a concrete slab on top.
I put a board along the side of the coop so that I can pour concrete and cover the wood beams. Not sure if this is going to work but it is worth a try.
Poured concrete.
